About Me

My name is Bethany Heston.
I could tell you about myself…but, instead, here’s a snapshot of my thoughts over the years:

(2006-2012):
“Church and Jesus are the same. I’m going to heaven when I die because I love Jesus and I’m a good person.”

(2012-2021):
-“Hide, hide, hide. They don’t know, do they?”
-“I’m not addicted. I can stop whenever I want.”
-“God, where are you? Please, I’m so tired. Where are you?”

(2021-2022):
“If you loved me God, why did you let my dad die?”-
“If you’re real, why won’t you help me sleep?”-
“I hate life. I can’t do this. I’m in pain, and I’m going crazy.”-
“I hate you God.”-

(2021-2022):
-“Jesus, I can’t do this anymore. I’m done with life.”

Spoiler alert: Jesus stopped me.

Jesus interrupted a suicide attempt in 12-2022, and that was the beginning of a wild journey.
I went from vicariously living my faith through my parents and pastors, from thinking that the people in the church were the same as Jesus, and from a long series of labels: addicted/depressed/suicidal/angry/anxious/fearful/exhausted…
I went from all of that to being

Free

Sounds simple. Sounds basic. Sounds unrealistic. And it’s one of the most true things I could ever tell you.

I believed I was worthless.
Consumed by anger. Focused on myself.
I sought physical pain to distract from emotional pain.
Four suicide attempts.
…but God…

I’m genuinely a new person. I have a mindset and a heart that I didn’t have in 2024.
Why do you care?
Well, you probably don’t…unless, you walked away from God and something in your mind wonders.
Unless, you chose the world, and you know that something’s off. Unless, you’re tired of whatever it is you’re using to distract yourself from pain.

If that’s you, you should care
Because, I am evidence that God is better

I knew about God and ran away. But Jesus brought me back to Himself.
I don’t know your story. But, this blog was written for people like you; for people who believe they knew God, but who walked away at some point.

God wants to bring you back to Himself.

“How long will you wander, unfaithful Daughter Israel? The Lord will create a new thing on earth-the woman will return to the man.” -Jeremiah 31:22
